Public Art Fund has unveiled Rob Pruitt’s The Andy Monument in front of Warhol’s former Union Square “Factory” studio in New York March 30, 2011.
It is the artist’s tribute to Andy Warhol—the father of Pop Art and one of New York’s enduring cultural icons.
The seven-foot-tall figure stands atop a concrete pedestal, the artist made the statue as he imagined Warhol in 1977 dressed in Levi's 501s, a Brooks Brothers blazer, wearing a Polaroid camera around his neck and carrying a Medium Brown Bag from Bloomingdale's.
Public Art Fund is New York’s leading presenter of artists’ projects, new commissions, installations, and exhibitions in public spaces. Since 1977,The Public Art Fund has worked with over 500 emerging and established artists to produce innovative temporary exhibitions of contemporary art throughout New York City.
The Andy Monument will be on view in the pedestrian mall at the northwest corner of Union Square at 17th Street and Broadway, until October 2, 2011.
