Rock veterans Eric Clapton and Neil Young: new album...
What would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday is being marked with a time capsule project that will preserve Lennon's post-Beatles recordings until 2040, announced the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and BoxofVision. Fan contributions to the capsules are being accepted now through September 15.
Three John Lennon time capsules are planned, including one that will be stored at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where a dedication ceremony will be held on October 8. The other two will be stored at "two additional world locations that have significance to John Lennon's legacy," according to a press release. The opening of the time capsules is planned for October 9, 2040 (the day that would have been Lennon's 100th birthday).
Among items going into the capsules will be recordings, newly restored art prints of Lennon's LP artwork, and a newly commissioned essay on his career. In addition, fans are invited to submit birthday wishes, commentary, musical performances, and more via the project's website. Fans can also make recommendations about what the time capsules should include.
The time capsule project is one of many endeavors being planned in honor of Lennon's 70th anniversary. On October 4, eight of Lennon's albums will be released in remastered versions, marking the launch of the "Gimme Some Truth" campaign that will include events around the globe. (Relaxnews)
