Pierre Gagnaire has come back to Tokyo this week with a new restaurant in the 36th floor of the ANA InterContinental hotel, in the Akasaka district, enjoying magnificent views of the capital.
The opening of "Pierre Gangaire Tokyo" was planned since his former restaurant in the Aoyama district was closed last year; it was rated two stars by the Paris-based Michelin culinary guide.
The restaurant seats 60, and has two private rooms. Young chef Olivier Chaignon, who already worked with him in his former Tokyo restaurant, will be in charge of the cuisine with Moriya Takahiro, who has worked for six years with Gagnaire in Paris.
The restaurant offers fixed menus for lunch ranging from 3,800 to 10,000 yen (42 to 110 dollars), and for dinner from 18,000 to 23,000 yen.
The 59-year old Gagnaire's Paris restaurant is rated three stars by Michelin. He also has restaurants in Dubai, Las Vegas, Seoul, Hong Kong, London and in France's ski resort of Courchevel.
