On October 14, the Dalmore distillery sold two of the three world's most expensive Scotch whisky bottles Dalmore 64 Trinitas for £100,000/€113,510 each.
Richard Paterson, the master distiller of the uber-exclusive Scotch, said in the Dalmore 64 sale announcement, "People recognise that you have to pay a premium for true exclusivity, craftsmanship, quality and heritage."
So what does the estimated £20,000/€22,702 50ml dram of whisky taste like?
The Trinitas is made of the "rarest and oldest stocks of whisky in the world," over 140 years old.
According to Dalmore's tasting notes the "...bouquet is highly complex" with "notes of sweet raisins, rich Colombian coffee, crushed walnuts, bitter orange, grapefruit, sandalwood, white musk and Indonesian patchouli."
And, sippers are promised tasty waves of "sweet sultanas, figs, a caramelised topping of Seville oranges, apples, mangos and dates" with "vino dulce muscatel, marzipan, treacle toffee, soft liquorice, roasted coffee, truffles, walnuts and muscovado sugar" dancing on the tongue.
An American collector and buyer of the first bottle Mahesh Patel said "Whisky is my passion. I love it. I have over 1000 bottles in my collection, and The Dalmore Trinitas is now the jewel in the crown. It's a beautiful spirit."
There is one last bottle and it is reserved for The Whisky Show 2010 (TWS) taking place October 29-30 at The Brewery in London, England. - Relaxnews
TWS tickets range from £95-190 (€108-216) and the event targets whisky "enthusiasts and connoisseurs." For more details on the masterclasses, pairings and exhibitors, go to: www.thewhiskyshow.com/2010
