Tim Burton’s fans in the UK might be disappointed, as cinemas are considering to boycott Alice in Wonderland, and will have to wait for a direct-to-DVD release.
Disney's announcement that DVD releases of films will be hitting just 12 weeks after they reach the theater, rather than the more standard 17 weeks, has angered theatre owners, who want to maintain 17-week standard, to make as much money out of a film as possible.
The three major chains in the UK - Odeon, Vue, and Cineworld, who own about 90 percent of the 3D theaters across the UK, are thinking about banning together and boycotting the Disney picture. Odeon and Vue have already removed promotional material, including trailers, from theirs, and have stopped selling advance tickets, The Times reported.

Disney's plan to release DVDs 5 weeks earlier than they would normally be released would be to maximize its home entertainment revenues, which have declined by about 20 per cent last year.
The Royal World Premiere of Alice in Wonderland will still occur at London’s Leicester Square to benefit The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts. The fantasy adventure in 3D stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. The actors attending the red carpet event will be joined by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Alice in Wonderland will be released worldwide on March 5, with a few countries to follow in March, and France, Brazil, Argentina, and Japan in April.
