Vivienne Westwood goes up the wall

British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has released a collection of wallpaper, incorporating her signature looks.

Consequently, the Grande Dame of UK fashion used her well-known 'Squiggle' print, dating back to her autumn/winter collection of 1981/82, or the more recent 'Cut-Out Lace,' developed from a fragment of antique lace, from her 2007 spring/summer line.

Westwood drew from great British classics such as the dogtooth pattern or traditional shirting stripes, got inspired by the wardrobe of Queen Elizabeth I (the 'Insects' pattern pays tribute to her), and even turned the Union Jack, in a weathered and sun-bleached look, into wallpaper.

"It is good when my ideas get carried over into other artistic media," said Westwood. "This collection is a perfect opportunity to be able to work with a heritage company like Cole & Son and to see my ideas from fashion translated into the world of interiors and wallpaper."

Her collection comes as part of a trend of fashion designers branching out into interiors (see Diesel for example) and vice versa (industrial designer Marc Newson created jeans for G-Star recently).

Samples of Westwood's wallpaper can be ordered online for £1 (€1.12) and are shipped worldwide.
