FIBO 2010, the world's largest event devoted to health, fitness and well-being, opens on April 22 in Essen, Germany, and this year's program boasts a packed program with the FIBO active stage highlighting the latest fitness trends including pole fitness, an ambitious type of whole-body exercise on a pole that combines acrobatics, gymnastics and dance.
For the past 24 years FIBO, as the key health, fitness and wellness trade event of the year, has introduced the latest fitness trends, techniques and products. 2010 is no different and over 50,000 health industry professionals, specialists and enthusiasts from 60 countries will have the opportunity to see cutting-edge fitness showcases centered on ZUMBA, Style Tactics 2010, WUSHU, tricking, XMA, pole fitness and much more.
The negative connotation of the stripper pole may still linger with some women but most are enjoying the perks, strength, toning and full body cardio of pole fitness that is also known as pole dancing, 'polenastics', 'polerobics', vertical ballet and 'polebatics'.
It isn't necessary to wear rhinestone booty shorts, pasties or stilettos to get the health and fitness benefits of pole fitness. American actresses including Demi Moore and Kate Hudson swear by the intense workout and the Pole Fitness Association has a committee working to include pole fitness as an Olympic event for 2012 Summer Olympic games.
Pole fitness is not just for women. The March/April edition of Pole Dance International, an e-zine devoted to pole fitness, is the 'first & only exclusive men's issue highlighting men and the art and skill of pole sport and fitness': http://www.formatpixel.com/project/15549
