Apple to launch new iPhone in third quarter: WSJ
A new app that allows tourists to discover the sights and attractions in 33 European cities has been launched.
The app has been created by European Cities Marketing, the European body responsible for promoting tourism in major cities on the continent.
It lists things to do in 33 European cities in 19 countries, automatically locating the user and providing a Google-based map to destinations.
It currently offers information for visitors to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bruges, Brussels, Copenhagen, Cordoba, Dijon, Dubrovnik, Dublin, Gijon, Goteborg, Innsbruck, Krakow, Lisbon, London, Lyon, Nice, Nurnberg, Olomouc, Oslo, Prague, Reykjavik, San Sebastian, Split, Stockholm, Tallinn, Tarragona, Turku, Turin, Valencia, Vicenza, Zagreb and Zaragoza.
European Cities Marketing is the group behind the European City Card, which offers free or reduced-price entry to city attractions and public transport.
As such, the iPhone app is geared to City Card holders, and offers only attractions that can be accessed with the card (although one can be bought online), effectively replacing the printed brochure that comes with the card.
However, it is a useful tool for visitors needing directions to popular locations in multiple cities and is the first app to cover so many cities at once -- although travel publishers such as Lonely Planet and Rough Guides offer some apps, they tend to focus on individual cities.
The City Card application is available for free at the App Store
