Oscar Wilde's Paris tomb made safe from admirers' kisses
At noon on 28 October 2010, the world’s first Ferrari theme park, and the largest of its kind, will open its doors to the public, in Abu Dhabi, a year after its first Formula One race.
Ferrari World will be housed under a massive triangular red roof on the 40-billion-dollar Yas Island development. It will be the world’s largest indoor theme park. The roof is between 35 and 50 meters high with no support structures, except the funnel in the middle and one row of columns, which will make the public forget they are under a roof. It spreads over 86,000 square meters, and the red roof bearing the world's largest Ferrari logo stretches over 200,000 square meters.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will have something for everyone with 20 attractions that will appeal to all audiences, including families and enthusiasts.
Amongst them it will feature a record-breaking roller coaster ride meant to emulate the feeling of being in a Ferrari F1 car, Formula Rossa, reaching 240 kmph in less than five seconds, Made in Maranello attraction will give an insight into the making of the world’s most sought-after cars, Viaggio in Italia will provide a breath-taking bird’s eye view of Italy, following a Ferrari California through the scenic countryside and famous Italian landmarks.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is located on Yas Island, a 25 km? entertainment and recreation destination and venue for the first Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. A number of new entertainment attractions will open to the public in the few coming years, including the first Links golf course in the region opening in late 2010, and a super regional mall in 2012.
Yas Island is one component of the mass infrastructure development outlined in the Abu Dhabi Government’s 2030 Plan to diversify and expand the emirate’s economic base. When completed, Yas Island is set to be a global tourist destination.
